Dar es Salaam’s drivers were paying too much for fuel. We built a gas station to change that.
Green Gas CNG was founded in 2026 with a single observation: Tanzania’s hardest-working drivers were spending 28,000–35,000 TZS a day on petrol — while Tanzania was sitting on one of East Africa’s largest proven natural gas reserves. We opened Mbezi’s only dedicated CNG filling station to close that gap.
Green Gas CNG began with a frustration that Mehbub Manji had watched for years. Dar es Salaam’s bajaji operators, cab drivers, and Bolt riders — some of the city’s hardest workers — were handing over a third of their daily income at the petrol pump. The irony was obvious: Tanzania had proven domestic gas reserves. TPDC was expanding supply infrastructure. The economics of CNG were undeniable. What was missing was a station that actually served the drivers who needed it most.
